Le Cuore Shoe Care 101: How to Clean Your Leather Shoes in 5 Easy Steps

It’s Circuit Breaker period. You are at home. You have tried countless new recipes, did all your online workouts, scored a few bingos on all the IG bingos forwarded by your friend, decluttered your wardrobe. What’s next, you ask?

We have a suggestion for you: it’s time to give your leather shoes some good in-depth cleaning and caring!

We feel that cleaning our shoes during this period gives us hope. Because not only is cleaning therapeutic, it also makes us hopeful that we will soon get to wear these beauties out and walk in the sunshine again.

Besides, nothing makes a person feels more empowered than wearing a cleaned pair of shoes that looks as good as new!

Before we begin cleaning, here are what you need:

  1. Soft cloths
  2. A pail of water
  3. Leather cleaner
  4. Shoe cream / shoe conditioner
  5. Shoe shine

Take out all your leather shoes from your shoe cupboard and lay them out. This can also be a time for you to do a Marie Kondo on them and throw/ give away those which do not spark joy anymore. ;)

Ready to start? Let’s go!

Step 1:

Take a dry soft cloth, wet it with a bit of water, and give the shoes a good wipe all around to remove any debris and loose dirt on them. You can also use a horsebrush at this step for a more thorough clean.

Step 2:

Take out the leather cleaner!

Spray leather cleaner on a new soft cloth and give your shoes a thorough wipe. Apply as much leather cleaner as needed.

Step 3:

Use a clean damp cloth now to wipe off the leather cleaner. Use a dry towel to wipe dry the shoes.

Step 4:

Now, it’s time to give your shoes a little spa treatment. Slap on some shoe cream on the shoes and massage the cream into the leather to moisturise it.

Apply shoe shine after to shine the surface of the leather. Note: this is not applicable to patent leather and brushoff leather.

AND… you are done!

Leave your shoes to dry completely in the open air at room temperature. Avoid direct heat as it might cause the leather to crack, i.e. do not place your shoes in the sun or use a hairdryer to blow dry.
